NBC WFLA News Channel 8 reported on a tragic accident in Riverview that killed two local teenagers.
The incident occurred Wednesday in Riverview around 4:40 p.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, when a two-door black Honda, traveling north on Valley Dale Drive, drove through the intersection with Progress Boulevard, running a red light in the progress. A Ford F-250 pickup truck was headed west on Progress Boulevard and was unable to stop in time, smashing into the Honda.
The Honda’s driver, eighteen years of age, and its passenger, who was fifteen years of age, were both killed by the impact. The pickup’s driver was uninjured.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff made the following statement: “We extend our deepest condolences to the families of these young victims that are facing a parent’s worst nightmare. This is the third traffic accident this month where teens have lost their lives. We urge parents to talk to their teens about safety on the roadways and remind our young drivers to be cautious and fully aware of the responsibility that lies in their hands the moment they get behind the wheel. One bad decision can lead to tragedy.”
Witnesses or those with relevant information are asked to contact the Hillsborough County Sheriff at (813) 247-8200.
