First Coast ABC NBC On Your Side News reported recently that a man was killed in Jacksonville early Thursday morning in a tragic vehicle crash.
According to officials from the Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred between 12:55 a.m. and 1:05 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the 8100 block of Merrill Road. The incident involved a black Nissan Altima sedan and a red Jeep Liberty SUV. Officials stated the Nissan was occupied by a man and a woman; both were taken to a local area hospital where the man later died. The driver of the Jeep was treated for minor cuts and abrasions and released at the scene.
The JSO stated that for unknown reasons still under investigation, the Nissan Altima made an abrupt left turn in front of the Jeep, which caused the Jeep to impact the Nissan on the passenger side. The driver of the Jeep is cooperating with the accident investigation in all respects. The accident temporarily shut down the intersection of Merrill Road, Hartsfield, and Dames Point Crossing.
Law enforcement officials emphasized the importance of being situationally aware before maneuvering in traffic to avoid sad instances such as this tragic accident.
