A Florida woman, a member of the Miami Heat dance team, was killed in a car-motorcycle accident last week. The accident occurred in Fort Lauderdale, near East Sunrise Boulevard and North Federal Highway.
Nancy Lopez-Ruiz, 22, was riding home from practice on her Suzuki motorcycle when a Mercedes-Benz hit her from behind. Lopez-Ruiz, a recent addition to the Heat dance team, was knocked off the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes, Mario Careaga, submitted to blood samples at the time of the crash. However, toxicology reports are still outstanding, and no charges have yet been filed.
"Nancy was a lovely young woman with an upbeat personality," Eric Woolworth, president of business operations for the Heat, told NBCMiami.com. "Her fierce passion for dancing was contagious. We wish to extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and teammates."
It is unclear if Lopez-Ruiz was wearing a helmet at the time of the motorcycle crash. Our sympathies go out to all of those affected by this tragic accident.
