First Coast News is reporting that one person is dead and multiple people injured after a crash last night on Dunn Avenue at I-295 in Jacksonville.
An SUV was going west on Dunn Avenue near the intersection of the I-295 northbound ramp. A sedan was turning left from the eastbound turn lane of Dunn Avenue to the entrance ramp.
The Florida Highway Patrol report says that the SUV ran the solid red light and crashed into the turning sedan before overturning and hitting a pole. A woman in the SUV and two young children were taken to the hospital. The woman died there.
There was also a man in the SUV according to the police, but the man ran away from the scene. Police are seeking help to identify and find the man. It is unknown if the man was the driver at the time of the crash.
The two children and several people in the sedan were treated for minor injuries.
We wish to extend our condolences to the family of the slain woman and hope that all the injured people recover as best as possible. We also hope the police find the runaway man as soon as possible for questioning. If he was the one driving the SUV at the time of the crash, he could face serious legal trouble.
