Yahoo! News reported that a single-vehicle crash on Christmas morning claimed the life of a local man and seriously injured a pedestrian that was struck by debris from the vehicle.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, a man 43 years of age was traveling down Forsyth Road between 2:55 a.m. and 3:05 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Friday, December 25 when, for unknown reasons still under investigation, he lost control of the vehicle and veered out of the travel lanes, striking a curb, then a sign and a utility box. This caused the car to flip and the driver was partially ejected from the vehicle through the driver’s window.
The driver was later pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by first responders and other officials.
A pedestrian 21 years of age was walking nearby at the time of the crash and was struck by an unknown part of the vehicle in the course of the accident. The impact seriously injured the pedestrian who was medically transported to a local medical facility.
Neither the pedestrian nor the driver was identified by the Florida Highway Patrol due to their interpretation of Florida’s Marsy’s Law legislation.
