WEAR Channel 3 ABC News reported recently that at least one person was injured in a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Escambia County, the westernmost county in the Florida panhandle, on Sunday, February 7.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Sunday, February 7, 2021 between 12:55 p.m. and 1:05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Sorrento Road near the intersection of Sorrento Road and Nighthawk Lane and involved three vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that a vehicle was traveling west on Sorrento Road when, for unknown reasons still under investigation, it crossed the centerline of the roadway into the eastern travel lanes and collided with another vehicle in a head-on collision. A third vehicle was unable to stop in time and collided with the first two vehicles.
The driver of the third vehicle, a man fifty years of age, was left in critical condition by the impact. He was medically transported by Life Flight helicopter to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola for emergency trauma care.
After investigation and cleanup, the roadway was reopened to traffic. The accident is still under investigation by local authorities and charges are reportedly pending related to the accident.
