According to Firehouse.com and WOFL-TV, a Florida EMT remains in the intensive care unit of a local hospital after being severely injured while responding to the scene of an accident on Sunday in Kissimmee, Florida.
The 21-year-old Osceola County Emergency Medical Technician was assisting other responders at the scene of a crash on Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee when he was struck by another vehicle. The vehicle had veered into the median to get around slow traffic and the young EMT was the only first responder who couldn’t get clear quickly enough to avoid being struck.
The victim suffered from fractures to his left arm and pelvis and ruptures to his bladder. Due to the severity of his injuries, his spleen was removed. He remains in critical condition in the ICU, but his parents report they have not been able to get in to see him due to COVID-19 restrictions.
His parents ask that motorists consider the risk to first responders when drivers choose to drive carelessly. “These people are trying to save your life. Cut them a break. Pay attention. If you see them on the side of the road with their lights lit up, I don’t care if you have to stop, turn around; just do it,” the victim’s father told Fox 35 News.

The injuries that a person suffers in...
