WKRG CBS Channel 5 News and WEAR ABC Channel 3 TV News reported recently that a man was killed in a tragic accident involving a dump truck on the north side of the Pensacola Bay Bridge on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Pensacola Police Department, the incident occurred between 3:20 p.m. and 3:50 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, on the north side of the Pensacola Bay Bridge near the 17th Street railroad trestle in a construction zone. A dump truck, owned and operated by a man 54 years of age, backed into a Pensacola man, 61 years of age. Police initially reported the man had suffered from severe injuries in the impact; it was eventually reported that the man had succumbed to those injuries and died.
In addition to the Pensacola Police Department, Pensacola Fire Department units responded to the scene. Police are investigating the incident as a traffic homicide and the investigation is active and ongoing; however, the dump truck driver has not been charged with any crimes at this time, nor has he been taken into custody. No other information has been released about the accident, but eyewitnesses are asked to contact the authorities.
