The Miami Herald reported recently that a bicyclist was killed in West Kendall during an apparent hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on the morning of Friday, May 7, 2021.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Miami-Dade Police Department, the incident occurred between 1:55 a.m. and 2:05 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the intersection of Southwest 72nd Street and 109th Avenue in West Kendall. A bicyclist, in his thirties although he has not been identified further at the time of press, was riding along 109th Avenue while a newer model Mercedes motor vehicle, driver unknown, was riding west on Southwest 72nd Street. For unknown reasons still under investigation, the Mercedes struck the man. The man died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Mercedes did not stop and police are unsure which direction he was headed.

Observers emphasized the importance of drivers being aware of their surroundings, especially of bicyclists or motorcyclists who don’t have the collision protection that motorists driving cars have. We also ask you to look twice before you change lanes or turn. You could save someone’s life.
