News 4 Jacksonville reported recently that a driver was killed in the southern part of St Johns County during an apparent motor vehicle accident on the morning of Tuesday, May 18, 2021.
The accident happened at an I-95 rest area exit in southern St. Johns County. The Florida Highway Patrol states that an SUV hit the back of a box truck as it was leaving the rest area. The impact pushed the box truck forward into the back of a parked tractor-trailer. Then the SUV caught fire and killed the driver.
Both the box truck and semi truck drivers were asleep at the time of the crash. There were no other injuries besides the fatality. Police are still investigating the incident.
We wish to extend our condolences to the family of the burned victim. Burn injuries are among the most painful of all injuries. Even if the driver had survived, he would have faced an excruciating recovery, not to mention an expensive one.
Please take care when leaving rest stop areas. It’s common for large vehicles to park on the sides of the ramps to rest. If you are also tired, your fatigue could make you crash just like this case.
