Wink News reported recently that a motor vehicle accident along Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres on the evening of Monday, May 10, 2021 led to a car bursting into flames.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred between 9:25 a.m. and 9:35 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Monday, May 10, 2021 along Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres, an area where neighbors say street racing has become a major problem.
Two cars were allegedly racing when one of them, driving a gray 2-door coupe, rear-ended a Jeep that was driving normally down the road. The driver of the coupe fled the scene, along with the white sedan that had been racing against them.
While the occupants of the Jeep weren’t seriously injured, a Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson stated “Someone could have become very seriously injured from that impact. It’s irresponsible. It’s immature. It’s dangerous. It puts other lives at risk.”
“I hope they do catch them because thank God nothing worse happened and for our safety too to send a message to people to stop racing on Lee Blvd,” a local business owner stated.
FHP is still looking for that hit-and-run driver and the driver of the white sedan they were racing. If you have any information about the crash, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477) or FHP at (239) 938-1800.
