The Villages News reported recently that three vehicles were involved in a Monday afternoon motor vehicle accident in The Villages near Southern Trace Plaza, a busy shopping center in the area, at an intersection where a new traffic light is being installed to prevent accidents like this in the future.
The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) at the intersection of County Road 466 and Preston Drive, where a new signal light was recently installed and has been flashing as a test before going operational on the 15th of December, according to the Department of Transportation. Officials from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the accident but have not as of yet determined whether the new flashing signal might have contributed to the accident, nor whether it would have prevented the accident had it been fully operational.
All three drivers involved were women, although other identifying information was unreported. There were no serious injuries reported although one person was transported to a hospital for a precautionary medical evaluation.
The Villages Public Safety Department also responded to the accident scene. The accident remains under active investigation, and eyewitnesses or others with relevant information are asked to contact investigators to aid in the investigation.
