The Villages News reported recently on a tragic accident in the large central Florida retirement community known as The Villages that caused a serious head injury for a local resident.
The accident took place around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at a roundabout that is locally known for having been the site of many serious vehicular accidents, at the intersection of Morse Boulevard and El Camino Real, and is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol. The victim was driving his red cart when he collided with a black sedan that was navigating the roundabout. The accident knocked the cart onto its side, according to witnesses that were at the scene of the incident.
The driver was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center for trauma treatment of the head injury.
The roundabout has previously made news for its involvement in other tragic accidents. In April, an 89-year-old New York man was seriously injured after his golf cart collided with a barrier in the intersection, and last year, a woman was hurt after a similar cart/barrier interaction. In 2018, a Village of Sabal Chase woman was injured in a crash at the same roundabout, and in 2014, a villager called for changes to the intersection after suffering from a concussion and three fractured ribs at the interchange.
