More details have emerged in the crash that killed five people and injured two others in Boca Raton. MSN has the details.
The driver of the Hyundai was a teen driver about to graduate from high school. His parents thought he was out earning money as a driver for DoorDash when they got the news. Two of the other deaths in that crash were 13-year-olds riding with him. The other two deaths were the adults in the other vehicle.
Before the crash, the teen driver had only one driving infraction for failing to stop at a red before turning right. Police say that the teen driver was speeding that night, though they did not reveal an exact speed.
What they do know is that the teen’s Hyundai spun out of control, hit a pole, then rolled over and landed roof-first on top of the other vehicle. All six of the passengers in the back seat were thrown from the car.
Boca Raton residents were also reminded of a similar crash that happened in 1996. Seven students squeezed into the back of a Honda Civic with two older teens in the front. That car went 90 mph, hit a median, and hit into an oncoming car. The teens in the back were thrown out in that crash too. Five of them were killed.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, in 2017, there was a 58% fatality rate for vehicle occupants in head-on collisions.
