First Coast NBC ABC News reported last week on a fatal car wreck in Clay County that involved multiple vehicles and shut down southbound lanes of Highway 301 for a period of time on the morning of Tuesday, October 6.
According to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened just south of County Road 218 right around 6:00 a.m. Drivers were urged to take State Route 16 east to Blanding Boulevard as an alternate route for their commute into the nearby city of Jacksonville, as both the north and south lanes of US 301 were shut down by the accident for a couple hours.
The Florida Highway Patrol traffic crash report website stated the crash involved four vehicles and that one person was pronounced dead at the scene. According to their investigation, a vehicle traveling north crossed the median and hit a vehicle headed south. Two other vehicles were involved in the wreck, presumably after the first two hit each other.
Clay County Fire Rescue tweeted that they were working the wreck and that it was located at 1120 US Highway 301, just south of County Road 218. They asked drivers to be aware and move over for emergency vehicles as needed.
