The Sarasota Herald Tribune reported recently that at least one person was killed and another hurt in a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Sarasota County, along the gulf coast of Florida, on Monday, February 8.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Monday, February 8, 2021 between 9:55 a.m. and 10:05 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 near mile marker 201. A man from Osprey, FL, 20 years of age, was driving an Acura sedan north on Interstate 75 when for unknown reasons still under investigation, he veered off the roadway onto the grassy shoulder to the east of the highway. The vehicle rolled over several times before coming to rest on its left side.
The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was hospitalized with injuries categorized by responders as serious. The passenger of the vehicle, a woman from Sarasota 20 years of age, sustained fatal injuries in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. The FHP did not state whether she was wearing a seatbelt, nor did they release the identities of the victims. The accident remains under investigation.
