The Suncoast News reported recently that a Zephyrhills woman was killed in a motor vehicle accident in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 28.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Thursday, January 28, 2021 between 6:50 a.m. and 6:55 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) along Florida State Route 56 near the intersection of SR 56 and the Oakwood Preserve Drive. The victim was driving a sedan westbound in the inside lane of SR 56, approaching the intersection, while a dump truck driven by a Tampa man 49 years of age was headed eastbound in the outside lane of SR 56.
For unknown reasons still under investigation, the woman lost control of her sedan and crossed the median, rotated, and entered the path of the dump truck. The front passenger side of the sedan collided with the front driver’s side of the dump truck. The impact caused the sedan to rotate and come to rest in the median, while the dump truck veered off the roadway, entered the shoulder, and landed in a ditch parallel to the road. The woman suffered fatal injuries in the wreck. No news was released about any injuries to the dump truck’s driver.
