The Villages News reported recently that a single-car motor vehicle accident occurred in Summerfield involving a commercial dump truck on Saturday, January 16, blocking traffic in the area for several hours along the busy U.S. Highway 441 corridor.
According to local law enforcement officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Saturday, January 16, 2021 between 3:20 p.m. and 3:40 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 441 in Summerfield. A dump truck belonging to Brantley’s Service and Maintenance attempted to make a left turn near the entrance to the Stonecrest development. However, as he was making the left turn, a piece of equipment shifted in the trailer being towed behind the truck. This caused the trailer to jack-knife.
The rear wheels of the dump truck came off the pavement during the jack knife, immobilizing both truck and trailer. The truck also dropped the heavy equipment being hauled in the trailer onto the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 441.
Marion County Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and used a firetruck to block off the accident site while crews worked to clean up the wreckage. No injuries were reported in the incident.
