The Daytona Beach News-Journal reported on a fatal accident in Pierson recently that left one person dead after a woman tried to overtake two other vehicles and rolled her truck over.
The incident took place on Monday, September 28, around 2:10 pm near 879 N US Highway 17 in Pierson and involved three vehicles, according to spokespeople from the Florida Highway Patrol. A large green pickup truck driven by a Seville woman 49 years of age was southbound on Highway 17 behind a white SUV and black Ford sedan, and she attempted to pass both vehicles.
As she was executing the overtake maneuver, the driver of the Ford sedan swerved out to pass the SUV and collided with the pickup truck. This forced the truck off the road and into the treeline where it rolled over in a ditch on the side of the road, ejecting the driver from the truck. The truck landed on top of her, killing her at the scene of the accident. Reportedly, the woman was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
The other drivers involved suffered minor injuries and the crash remains under investigation. US Highway 17 was closed for over five hours between Palmetto Avenue and County Road 3 to enable clearing efforts.
