News Channel 4 Jax reported recently that a tragic motor vehicle accident occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 24 along Interstate 95 in downtown Jacksonville between a car and a motorcycle, killing one person and injuring two more.
According to officials from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred in the very early morning of Sunday, January 24, 2021, between 12:00 a.m. and 12:10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) at the intersection of Main and Union Streets in downtown Jacksonville. A motorcycle was hit by a car, ejecting the motorcyclist from the bike. A JSO officer was on scene and witnessed the accident, so response was very quick. The motorcyclist was medically transported to a hospital with critical injuries.
The passenger in the car that hit the motorcycle was declared dead at the scene of the accident, while the driver suffered comparatively minor injuries and is expected to recover after treatment at a local hospital.
The accident closed Union Street between North Laura Street and Ocean Street for a long period of time. The accident is being investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit and the investigation is currently still in progress.
