The Miami Herald reported recently that a motor vehicle accident on Friday, April 2, 2021 in the Florida Keys resulted in a closure of the famous Seven Mile Bridge near Marathon as sheriff’s deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers worked to investigate and clean up the incident.
According to information provided by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Friday, April 2, 2021 between 4:25 p.m. and 4:35 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on U.S. Federal Highway 1 along the Seven Mile Bridge connecting Knight’s Key to Little Duck Key. The accident involved three vehicles, including a commercial box truck, and shut down traffic on the crucial link between the Keys and the mainland for about two hours at the start of a busy holiday travel weekend.
NBC Channel 2 News reported that a man from Sarasota County was killed on Saturday, April 3, 2021 while trying to tow another vehicle with his own car.
The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. along Clark Road in Sarasota. The victim, a man 71 years of age, was driving a pickup truck and attempting to tow a BMW using a metal chain. He left the truck in reverse and got out of the vehicle, then was struck by both vehicles.
