WEAR ABC Channel 3 News reported recently that a young man from Crestview was killed in a motor vehicle accident that took place on Interstate 10 in the Florida Panhandle on the evening of Monday, March 8, 2021, in Santa Rosa County east of Pensacola.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Monday, March 8, 2021 between 9:25 p.m. and 9:35 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) at mile marker 19 of Interstate 10 near the Escambia County – Santa Rosa County line in Santa Rosa County, just east of Pensacola Bay. A young man, 22 years of age, was driving eastbound when he collided with a concrete divider. He exited his vehicle and was walking around his car when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a woman from Arkansas passing through the area.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Arkansas woman suffered serious injuries in the impact and was medically transported to a local hospital. The accident closed all eastbound lanes for investigation and cleanup. All traffic was diverted to Scenic Highway as crews worked to clear the accident scene. An investigation is currently active and ongoing. No word has been released on the condition of the Arkansas woman.
