The Suncoast News reported recently that a fatal accident on Monday, December 14 in Hudson involved a tractor-trailer and a motorcycle and led to the death of a Hudson resident.
According to reports from officials representing the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred between 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on the afternoon of Monday, December 14 along U.S. Highway 19 in Hudson, near the intersection of U.S. 19 and Tower Drive north of the Hudson Walmart. A tractor-trailer, driven by a Spring Hill man 43 years of age, was northbound on U.S. 19 and entered the left turn lane to turn onto Tower Drive westbound. Simultaneously, a motorcycle operated by a man from Hudson 61 years of age, headed south on U.S. 19, entered the center lane just as the tractor-trailer began a U-turn into the southbound lanes.
The maneuver caused the two vehicles to collide, with the motorcycle impacting the trailer portion of the semi. The motorcycle was redirected into the southbound lanes by the force of the impact while the truck came to a stop on the shoulder. The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital, where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident. The truck driver was reportedly uninjured.
