The Daily Commercial reported recently that a pair of motor vehicle accidents in Lake and Sumter counties led to the death of three people over last weekend.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol as well as local law enforcement officials, the first incident occurred between 12:20 a.m. and 12:25 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, April 17, 2021 on Avenida Central. A 2019 Audi was westbound on Avenida Central when, for unknown reasons still under investigation, the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle began to overturn and struck a second tree. The driver, who was from Port St Lucie and 30 years of age, and the passenger, who was from Belleview and 25 years of age, were pronounced dead at the accident scene.
The second incident took place on Sunday, April 18, 2021 between 3:00 a.m. and 3:05 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) near Webster. A pickup truck was heading south on county road 745 when it veered off the roadway and struck a tree south of County Road 48. The crash resulted in a massive fire and the driver was killed.
Both accidents remain under investigation.
