The Lakeland Ledger reported recently that three people were killed last Monday in the central Florida region of Polk County in a series of four motor vehicle mishaps around the locale.
According to officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, and other law enforcement agencies. The incidents took place on Monday, February 15, 2021. The first incident occurred between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Monday morning in Haines City, when the victim, a woman 77 years of age, was driving a 2018 Kia Miro and struck a 2011 Nissan Rogue on U.S. Highway 27 as it was making a turn onto South Boulevard in front of her.
The second accident occurred Monday afternoon on County Road 540-A East in Lakeland. A 2003 Toyota Tundra, towing a trailer, was being driven east by a man 63 years of age when the trailer began to shift, causing the truck to flip over. The man’s grandson, 8 years of age, was ejected from the back seat and severely injured. He was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Around 8 p.m. Monday, the third accident occurred, in which a Lake Wales man 63 years of age was struck and killed by a car along Cypress Gardens Boulevard in Winter Haven while assessing damage to his own car from a prior accident.
