According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 between 1:40 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Miramar, near Miramar Parkway. A white SUV was proceeding south along I-75 when for unknown reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle, swerved to the right, and struck the guardrail along the right shoulder of the highway. A woman 60 years of age was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where she died of injuries received from the crash. A woman 30 years of age sustained serious injuries in the wreck, while a man 30 years of age and a boy 8 years of age both received minor injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, none of the vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts.
