Channel 10 Local News reported recently that a single-car motor vehicle crash occurred in Miramar Wednesday morning that killed one woman and sent three other people to the hospital.
According to a press release issued by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 between 1:40 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Miramar, near Miramar Parkway. A white SUV was proceeding south along I-75 when for unknown reasons still under investigation, the driver lost control of the vehicle, swerved to the right, and struck the guardrail along the right shoulder of the highway. This caused the vehicle to careen to the left across all southbound lanes and slam into the concrete center median barrier wall.
A woman 60 years of age was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where she died of injuries received from the crash. A woman 30 years of age sustained serious injuries in the wreck, while a man 30 years of age and a boy 8 years of age both received minor injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, none of the vehicle occupants were wearing seatbelts.
The accident is still under active investigation.
