The Miami Herald reported on a tragic crash along Interstate 95 that claimed the life of a Hollywood McArthur High football player ranked as one of the top football players of his cohort.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident involved a pickup truck with five teenagers riding in it, four in the cabin and one riding in the truck bed, and took place on Saturday around 8:30 pm. The truck was headed north on I-95, just south of Hollywood Boulevard, driven by a 15-year-old from Miami Gardens. The unlicensed driver attempted to change lanes and bumped a sedan on his left side, causing him to lose control of the vehicle. The truck went into a clockwise spin into the shoulder where it impacted an SUV broken down on the side of the road and then the guardrail.
The passenger riding in the truck bed was a 15-year-old freshman football player who was ejected from the truck bed and died on impact with the ground. The young man was an FBU Freshman All-American defensive lineman who was considered to have a bright future in football.
Charges may be pending based on the outcome of the investigation, which is currently in progress.
