ClickOrlando / Channel 6 News reported recently that a street racing incident on Friday, April 2, 2021 in Osceola County ended in great tragedy as an 11-year-old bystander was killed in a horrific accident.
According to information provided by officials with the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Friday, April 2, 2021 between 10:55 p.m. and 11:05 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on U.S. Federal Highway 192 near Secret Lake Drive. A Davenport man, 19 years of age, was driving a Dodge Charger and allegedly racing a young teenager, 17 years of age, in a Kia Optima, according to eyewitnesses. The Davenport man failed to slow down when needed and slammed into the rear-end of a Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle. The Charger was sent crashing into a speed limit sign from the impact while the RAV4 went careening into the median.
The Charger’s driver suffered minor injuries while his passenger was uninjured. The driver of the RAV4 is in serious condition, while one passenger is in critical condition and the second passenger, an 11-year-old girl, succumbed to the injuries she sustained in the accident at a local hospital. The accident remains under investigation.
