The Villages News reported on a high-speed crash on US Highway 301 that killed two teenagers in Sumter County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 19-year-old Summerfield man was behind the wheel of a red sedan shortly before 8:00 a.m., traveling north on U.S. Highway 301 near the intersection with County Road 472 AKA Rainey Trail at an excessive rate of speed.
The teen lost control of the sedan for unknown reasons still under investigation and crossed the median into the southbound lanes of US 301, colliding head-on with a white pickup truck driven by a 65-year-old man from Eustis. The teen who was driving and his passenger, an 18-year-old Ocklawaha woman, died at the scene of the accident, while the pickup truck driver and his passenger, a 28-year-old man from Lady Lake, both suffered minor injuries.
The CW 34 reported on slow-moving traffic along the Florida Turnpike in the Stuart area due to multiple wrecks. The Florida Highway Patrol reported the wrecks were caused by debris from a box truck in the northbound lanes near mile marker 130. The accidents shut down the highway for a period and left only one lane open for some time after that.
