Sarasota Bradenton International Airport Slip And Fall Lawyer

Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, located at 6000 Airport Circle, Sarasota, Florida, is located in Sarasota and Manatee Counties. It is owned by the Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority, and is three miles north of Sarasota and six miles south of Bradenton.

The airport’s early days began in 1939 when business leaders and government from the surrounding counties agreed to co-construct an airport. The project involved a 620-acre site on the Sarasota-Manatee County line. In May 1941 a resolution named the new facility the Sarasota Bradenton Airport. The Airport Authority leased the land to the Army Air Corps in 1942 as a fighter pilot training base and it was during WWII that the federal government upgraded the airport and added another 250 acres.

Over the years a new terminal was built, a parallel taxiway and runway was completed in 1963, a runway was extended to 7,001 feet in the early 1970s and the main runway was extended for 9,500 feet in 2002, better radar detection equipment installed, a shade hangar added along with a new security/safety building and there was a new entrance built from U.S. 301.

Commercial jet service started in early 1940, but jet service did not arrive until 1965, courtesy of National Airlines. Eastern Airlines started offering service in 1961. The word international was not added to the airport name until November 1992 when U.S. Customs gave a nod of approval to the airport as having “Port of Entry” status.
