Distracted Driving Leads to Many Florida Truck Accidents
Our picture of truck drivers is often favorable. While many semi truck operators live up to this image and drive safely on area roads aware of those around them, many others are negligent in how they operate their big rigs.
One of the primary forms of negligent driving that shows up among truck drivers is distracted driving. This type of negligence, which takes many possible forms, puts all people on the road at risk. Simply stated, distracted driving causes Florida truck accidents.
There are three basic types of distracted driving. An 18-wheeler operator may take their eyes off the road (visual), take their hands off the wheel to do another task (manual), or let their mind drift from the task of driving (cognitive). Each type is very dangerous.
The specific tasks that may distract truck drivers, and therefore increase the risk of dangerous Florida truck accidents, are numerous. Truck drivers may be distracted by a cell phone, a computer, a movie or music player, a book or magazine, food or drink and much more.
Distracted drivers themselves aren’t the only problem. Trucking companies, who set tight deadlines and fail to teach safe driving procedures, are just as much to blame for the problem of distracted driving.
If you or a loved one has been catastrophically injured in a Florida truck wreck caused by a negligent driver, it is important to remember that you are not at fault. If this is the case, you may be eligible to recover financial damages from the Florida truck wreck.
