Sumitomo Tire Recalls
The Sumitomo Group first started in 1909 when they invested in Dunlop Japan. In 1963 they acquired Dunlop Japan and renamed the company Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. (SRI).
In 1986 Sumitomo bought the Dunlop Tire Corporation in the U.S. and in 1997 they partnered with Goodyear Tire and agreed to make tires for each other’s markets, an agreement that also included brand Dunlop tires.
Sumitomo now produces not just automobile tires, but tennis and golf balls.
Sumitomo once had an impeccable reputation for producing high quality tires with superior materials. However, that reputation was tarnished with multiple complaints about their products and at least one tire recall.
