A Fort Lauderdale car accident on Interstate 95 nearly killed a young couple after they were ejected from their car. The accident happened on I-95 just north of the Sunrise Boulevard exit around 7 a.m. last week.
The young couple, 21-year-old Donald Williams and his girlfriend 20-year-old Jessica Welch, was ejected from their Ford Explorer SUV when Williams lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barrier on the side of the road.
Both Williams and Welch, neither of whom were wearing seat belts, were thrown out of the vehicle and onto the roadway. Welch was hit by a Crown Victoria driving behind them, and a grey Hyundai was also involved.
The driver of the Crown Vic and another good samaritan used a jack to lift the car off of Welch, as emergency workers arrived on the scene to help. The couple was rushed to Broward General in serious condition.
We are glad to hear that there were no fatalities in this scary wreck, and our thoughts are with those recovering. We remind all of our readers to wear your seat belts at all times.
