A Budget rental truck caused a serious pileup on Interstate 95 in Miami-Dade County this week, catching up numerous other vehicles and closing both sides of the road for hours.
The rental truck started the pileup at around 9 a.m. on the southbound side of I-95 near 79th Street when the driver lost control, swerved across multiple lanes of traffic and overturned before crashing into a concrete barrier.
Five other accidents happened shortly after, as southbound cars tried to avoid the sliding truck. When concrete from the barrier flew into northbound lanes, another five accidents occurred.
Four people were taken to Jackson North Medical Center from injuries sustained in the pileup, while another went to Jackson Memorial Hospital. None of the injuries were life-threatening.
All lanes on both sides of I-95 were closed for 30 minutes for cleanup after the crashes. Some lanes stayed closed until 11:30 a.m., backing traffic up for miles.
Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this pileup. We are glad that no one was more seriously injured.
