Laurie Daugherty got in a friend's car, against his fair warnings, without a license or insurance. She raced through a green light, lost control of the vehicle and collided with the bus stop at 10th Avenue North and Military Drive in suburban Lake Worth.
According to Christopher, Laurie's friend, she was in a hurry to get her medication and insisted she take his car, a Chevrolet Cobalt. At 10 a.m. she hit the bus stop, and sitting inside were Belarmino Perez, 71, and Raquel Christopher, 36.
Sheriff's deputies arrived at the Florida crash scene where "the roof of the bus stop was on the ground a few feet east of where it used to be", and the two people "were lying face down," one "bleeding from the head," the sheriff's report says.
DeCarlo, of Lake Worth, said Daugherty - who deputies say has a history of suspensions and citations - was speeding.
"I saw the people at the bus stop, and said, 'I hope she doesn't hit them.' Then, bang, this happened," he said.
All four people involved in the wreck were transported to area hospitals for a variety of injuries. Our thoughts are with all of those affected by the crash.
