Police Identify Woman Killed in Orlando Hit-and-Run Accident

Posted on Nov 12, 2010

A woman killed last week in a hit-and-run car/pedestrian accident has been identified as Maebell Johnson, 62, of Fort Lauderdale.

Johnson was walking in the westbound lanes of I-595 west in Fort Lauderdale when she was struck and killed by a car driving west.

Johnson was not carrying any identification at the time of the crash, and was only identified when the Florida Highway Patrol put her together with a missing persons report filed by her daughter.

Johnson was last seen at about 7 a.m. Tuesday at her home in the 2600 block of Northwest 27th Lane in Fort Lauderdale. Johnson suffered from dementia, which may explain her actions.

The driver who hit and killed Johnson has still not been found. Our sympathies go out to all of those involved in this fatal wreck.
