Driving through Melbourne on Saturday, a motorcycle rider was struck by a car and is in critical condition after his Harley-Davidson slammed into the passenger side of the Honda Sedan, ripping the door off and sending him flying over the car.
"We think he went airborne over the car and landed 20 feet from the point of impact," Sanders said. "He suffered severe head and facial injuries." According to witnesses, the motorcyclist landed on his head, and he was not wearing a helmet.
According to Lt. Heath Sanders of the Melbourne Police Department, the black motorcycle driven by Gregory Kapuler, 66, of Indian Harbour Beach was eastbound on Parkway Drive about 9:35 p.m.
That's when Sanders said a westbound Honda Accord driven by Jon Kalle, 20, of Palm Bay failed to yield at a green light. It turned left toward Stewart Road and into the motorcycle's path.
Kapuler was hospitalized at Holmes Regional Medical Center. Our condolences and well wishes go out to the family and friends, and to the victim, Gregory Kapuler. Our thoughts also are with all of those affected by this Florida crash.
