A construction worker in Fort Myers who was injured in a gas line explosion has been upgraded from critical condition to fair.
30-year-old Mario Santos, of Bonita Springs, was originally injured on November 11, 2010. The bulldozer Santos was driving in Fort Myers collided with an 8-inch natural gas line, engulfing him in flames.
The natural gas line break in the Southwest Florida system originally left 6,000 residential homes and 1,200 commercial businesses without gas service. Many were forced to shut down temporarily.
Santos was taken to the Tampa Bay Regional Burn Center in critical condition with burns to half his body after the accident. Earlier this month, he was upgraded to fair condition, with future improvements hopefully to come.
