On Monday, September 5, 2011, one person was tragically killed in a Broward County crash on Florida's Turnpike. Authorities stated that the accident occurred early Monday morning, and that the crash was a single-vehicle accident.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Honda Civic crashed into a tree on the Turnpike Extension near University. The car was traveling northbound, and the accident occurred just after midnight.
Two people were in the Honda when it lost control and went off the side of the road, through grass, and into a tree. A 23-year-old man, of Lauderhill, died at the scene of the accident. Officials later identified the victim as Delano A. Harvey, who was the passenger in the Honda.
Jakeson D. Stewart, also 23, of Fort Lauderdale, was identified as the driver involved in this accident. There is no word on his medical condition, or if he was even injured during this South Florida crash.
Accident investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash, but they have stated that both men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
