The second annual gala for the Debbie's Dream Foundation, which fights to find the cure for stomach cancer, was a rousing success. The Chalik & Chalik Law Offices was a gold sponsor and Jason and Debi Chalik were co-chairs of the event.
The Gala, which was held on May 6, 2011 at the Westin Beach Resort & Spa in Fort Lauderdale, featured cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, silent and live auctions, dinner, dancing and a talk by No. 1 New York Times best-selling author Brad Meltzer.
During the evening, the non-profit's organizers also announced a name change from Debbie's Dream Foundation to 'Can't Stomach Cancer' in order to more clearly identify the purpose of the organization.
The event brought in nearly $180,000 of fundraising for the foundation, including $68,500 from sponsors, $14,500 from program book sponsors, $47,000 from RSVP and non-attendee contributions, $28,000 from the silent auction, $12,500 from the live auction and more from raffle tickets and pledge cards.
Founded by Debbie Zelman in 2009, the non-profit organization raises awareness of stomach cancer and provides funding for research for the difficult-to-treat disease. Zelman was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer in 2008 at the age of 40. She has three children.
The Chalik & Chalik Law Offices is thrilled to be a part of such an important organization. We are glad to contribute to the success of the evening and look forward to many more to come.
