Debbie Zelman is an inspiring woman. Just three years after being diagnosed with Stage IV stomach cancer, and being given a five percent chance of surviving, Debbie is leading a non-profit to raise money to find the cure for this deadly disease.
Debbie's Dream Foundation, which was established in 2009, is holding its second annual Dream Makers Gala on May 6, at The Westin Beach Resort and Spa in Fort Lauderdale, FL. A free symposium will be held the next day.
Jason & Debi Chalik are co-chairing the event, and are proud to be supporting such an important cause. The Gala has a fundraising goal of $150,000, while last year's event raised $140,000.
"My dream is that we will learn enough about this disease to find it early, or even prevent it," Zelman said. "We want our gala to continue to be a wonderful celebration of life but also a way to raise funds to make this dream a reality."
Zelman grew up in Plantation, FL. She has three children with her husband, Andrew Guttman, who is the director of anesthesiology at Westside Regional Hospital. They have a 6-year-old, Sarah, and 13-year-old twins Rachel and Zachary.
Tickets for the gala are $175. Sponsorships are still available, ranging from $600 to $25,000. Call 954-889-5825 or email events@debbiesdream.org to learn more.
