There was an interesting turn of events when a South Florida accident occurred on October 25th, 2011. According to authorities, a car plunged into a lake on Tuesday with a 3-year-old child in the back seat.
The Sun Sentinel reports that the car crash occurred due to an argument between the driver and passenger, the 3-year-old's parents. According to witnesses, the driver swerved into the lake after being hit by the passenger.
Police said that they were called to a gas station due to a couple fighting. Witnesses reported seeing the mother drive the car, and Sandro Michel, the baby's father, hit her and caused her to veer the car into the 40-foot-deep lake.
The 3-year-old popped out of the submerged car due to her buoyant diaper and floated to safety. The mother was rescued by Deputy Cazi Navarro after he heard her screams for help, and the father drowned during this Pembroke Park crash.
Sadly, when the baby was spotted, the toddler was motionless and not responsive, according to Deputy Michael Francis. However, after treatment at Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood, FL, she was later released.
Michel had previous incidents of domestic violence and was on probation for domestic battery. He was ordered by court not the contact the baby's mother, except by email, phone, or text to schedule the baby's visitations.
Chalik & Chalik is saddened to hear of this fatality, and would like to wish the baby and the baby's mother a full recovery.
