Two Main Types of Road Burn That can Occur in Florida Motorcycle Accidents

Road burn and road rashes are common results of Florida motorcycle crashes. These dangerous wrecks can throw riders from their bikes, and the friction between their skin and the pavement will create a burn. This can occur no matter if the rider is wearing protective clothing or not.

Although road rash from Florida motorcycle accidents is painful, there are a couple different types of road burns that can occur:
  1. Scraping Injuries: This type of road burn is more minor, showing up in scrapes and bruises the rider gets from sliding across the pavement. Scraping injuries can often be treated with disinfectant and bandages, and can heal on its own.
  2. Avulsion Injuries: This type of road burn scrapes so much of the rider's skin away that the muscles and fat below the skin become visible. Avulsion injuries require emergency room treatment, and may need stitches or skin grafts in order to heal completely.

No matter the type of road rash injury you have, from minor to severe, it is always a good idea to seek immediate medical attention. Even if the injury doesn't seem serious at first, the most minimal road rashes can become infected.
