The Possible Long-Term Prognosis of Erb's Palsy in Florida

Florida birth injuries, such as Erb's Palsy, can be devastating. Instead of the joyous occasion you were expecting, you are instead faced with an immediate medical emergency that can have a long-standing or even lifetime effect on a newborn.

A Florida birth injury like Erb's Palsy could have long-lasting effects.Cause of Erb's Palsy

Erb's Palsy, a type of birth injury, occurs when a newborn's shoulder gets stuck on the mother's pelvic bone during delivery, causing nerve damage. This nerve damage can affect the child's ability to use one of their arms.

Prognosis of Erb's Palsy

In some cases, Erb's Palsy can heal quickly with the help of targeted physical therapy and progressive range of motion (PROM) therapy. In other cases, Erb's Palsy will have long-lasting effects, resulting in temporary or even permanent paralysis of a child's arm.

The prognosis of Erb's Palsy cases can sometimes be determined by the severity of the original nerve damage. In other cases, the type of treatment or therapy given and the patient's dedication to getting better determine the prognosis. In yet other cases, only time can decide the final prognosis.

When Erb's Palsy Results from a Birth Injury

While Erb's Palsy is a natural birth injury, it can also be caused by negligence of medical professionals. These doctors or nurses, by using certain drugs, tools or procedures, can cause Erb's Palsy, leaving your family to live with the consequences of their mistakes.

Fortunately, personal injury law in Florida gives all the victims of this type of negligence the opportunity to earn compensation through medical malpractice cases. These recovered damages may cover additional medical bills, ongoing care or physical therapy, and years of pain or emotional suffering.

These Florida laws and personal legal rights are in place to ensure that medical professionals are accountable for instances of negligence, and that the victims of malpractice have a forum in which to be heard, and make things right.

Hi, my name is Jennifer, I currently live in Charlotte, NC and I'm 29 yrs old. I was born in Hampton, VA on Langley Airforce Base April 28, 1982. Little did the doctors know, I came out weighing 10lbs 14oz Vs the 8lb guess the doctor told my mother. In the process of delivering me(vaginal), my head and left shoulder came out and then I got stuck. My mother said she was in extreme pain and was like this for awhile until a another doctor came to her rescue and literally pulled me out. (which my mom gained 36 stiches inside/out). As the doctor pulled me out, he ripped the nerves in my shoulder and my left arm was paralyzed for the first 6months of my life. My parents were given the run around as doctors claimed I may be handicapped and even lose feeling in my whole left side one day. I was given physical therapy both with therapists and at home. Then one day when I was 6months old, I reached out to my grandpa with left arm and everyone was amazed. Apparently my nerves grew back on their own, however til this day I cannot reach above my, turn my wrist over nor hold tightly to heavy things without letting go. I'm right handed yet my left arm muscle is stronger since I have to strain more when carrying something, etc.... Long story short, some days I wake up feeling ok but others I feel extremely sore. Sleeping on my right side causing my chest to hurt as my left arm just flops over and I can't sleep much on my left side bc the nerves get pinched and my arms goes to sleep.
I know you would normally take care of this problem as it first occured but being that it happened so long ago, there's nothing anyone can do for me now. If my parents knew then what they know now I wouldn't have to live with these complications and I hope anyone who goes through this gets what they deserve.
I apologize if this email finds you time wasted but I wanted to share my story and bad experience. It's not fun and by you guys helping others, it will get them what they need to live better.
Thanks, Jennifer
