Reduce Your Risk of a Fort Lauderdale Accident This Holiday Period

Although the Thanksgiving travel period is already over, the Florida Highway Patrol is still encouraging motorists to be careful when hitting the roadways this holiday season. As Christmastime is approaching with holiday parties and holiday travels, Floridians are being asked to travel safely.

Troopers have also announced that they will be increasing their enforcement during the holiday travel periods. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is using auxiliary and reserve troopers to increase patrol efforts. They will be looking to crack down on speeders, aggressive drivers, impaired drivers, and drivers following too closely to other vehicles.

The FHP is providing recommendations for drivers to be safer on Florida roads in order to reach their destinations safely. Tips include:
  • Obey the speed limits.
  • Get adequate sleep prior to driving.
  • Prepare your vehicle for travel.
  • Don’t text while driving.
  • Eliminate other distractions while driving.
  • Do not drink and drive.
  • Buckle up.

The FHP would also like to remind travelers to make sure that everyone in their vehicle is buckled in. Drivers will be held responsible for any passenger under the age of 18 who is not wearing a seatbelt. The driver will be fined, and passengers 18 and older will be fined individually if they are not wearing their seatbelt. Fines are $109, but other legal measures can also be attached to this crime. Remember, the use of seatbelts is not just the law; it can help reduce the risks of injuries during a Florida car crash by 50 percent.

If you have been injured in a South Florida auto accident this holiday season due to no fault of your own, your may have rights to financial compensation for your injuries and damages.
